Dusting off the brushes and mahl stick for William’s Transport 50th anniversary

It’s not very often I get asked to revert back to my traditional skills as a signwriter but when Andy Williams of Williams Transport asked if I would like to replicate his old livery on his new Iveco Cab, I have to admit I jumped at the chance.

We discussed the old livery design, viewed numerous old photos and set about planning the work. I dusted off my brushes and mahl stick and set about preparing for the truck to arrive. I planned to complete the job over a weekend so I could set aside some quality time with little or no interruptions and started signwriting the cab.

I thoroughly enjoyed going back to my roots and reminisced as to how myself and my mentor Stan Finch had done this on numerous occasions in years gone by. I completed the signwork using the old style enamel paints with a little shading added and a pinline around the main text. Finally, a coat of lacquer over the entire cab when I had completed it, the finished cab looked amazing.

It was a pleasure to have been involved in such a project and to make the front cover of the Commercial Motor magazine and a few other transport papers was an honour for me.

Thanks Andy
